"No, I don't know how he got that." I shrugged. Most (well, all, actually) I knew about Azen I had heard from the dancers. When he suggested taking one of Azen's windboards I almost smacked him.
"You're kidding. Azen would skin us both and then he'd probably feed us to the d**n sea monster!" My reaction was probably a bit over-the-top, but Azen was definitly someone I didn't want to mess with. He probably wouldn't hurt Sevren, but I wasn't entirely sure he wouldn't hurt me. "Besides, I don't know how to use one."

Okay, the weirdest part inside of all of this was: the very first thought that came into my mine was why would Azen skin us before he threw us to the monster? I didn't mention it out loud, Kurt scared me enough with his reaction to a simple theft. "You really think Azen would do something like that? Why, did you do something to make him hate you or something?" THe Azen I know wouldn't even think opf doing something like that...in fact, he'd probably see the whole thing as a joke. "Besides, Azen isn't here."
Well shoot, neither one of us knew how to ride a windboard. "Well, Azen's got a lot of other cool stuff, and it couldn't hurt to look." I ran towards the Central Dias where Azen slept. It surprised me how different I was without him here. I mean, it was weird enough without Elsie, but wqithout Azen everyone I ran past seemed to be really on edge....and I was too reckless even for me. I didn't know if Kurt felt any different, 'cause he hadn't been on the island long.
IO stopped running when I was only about halfway there. For the first time since Elsie was gone; for the first time in my life more precisly, I actually felt.....lonely. Not just awkward, but really truly alone.

I sighed; Sevren was taking everything I said too literally. "Well, Azen's got a lot of other cool stuff, and it couldn't hurt to look." When he got up and ran off towards the Dias I sighed; this couldn't end well. I got up and walked after him, confused when he stopped in mid-stride.
I jogged up to him, wondering if he was feeling sick or something. "Are you okay?" I put my hand on his shoulder, hoping he wasn't going to puke or something.

I was pulled out of my reviere (sp) by Kurt walking up beside me and asking if I was okay. I blinked a couple of times. Now I was starting to act like Elsie when she pulled into her shell. Dang it, there was no time to be upset! Too much thought and not enough action was gonna make me a falcon! I smiled back up at him. "Yeah.....I guess I'm okay. Just thinking. I'm seem to be doing way to much of that lately."
But, Kurt's words about Azen skinning us had made me realize something. "Yeah, we should probably be out looking for Azen instead of trying to steal his stuff. Besides, we'd never get that one past Hali anyway." I had no idea why I was thinking aloud (it was weird enough that I was thinking. "Elsie's strong, despite even what [she/i] thinks, but if Azen's not here, the whole island will probably suffer." MY shoulders slumped. "'Course, that means we'll have to cross that bridge......"

I nodded. "Yeah, that'll be fun." I sighed and turned back towards the bridge. "We just have to run the other way and hope that thing doesn't try and eat us." I stuck my hands in my pockets, not sure if I really wanted to go back and face that thing again. "I wonder what that thing is. Maybe Hali knows; you think we should ask her?"

My eyes widened at that idea. I'd seen Hali's half-form before, and I wasn't too eager to get her mad enough to see it again. I heard another resounding splash in the distance and nearly jumped out of my skin (//random thought, you think the serpents in Kiesha'ra shed their skin? I know Zane's skinned a few but...//).
"M-maybe that th-thing's gone now?" I tried to force the tremble out of my voice. I looked in the direction of the bridge. I couldn't see the snake from here but...

"How do you think this thing got here? I mean, it's not like someone would've been able to build it overnight, right?"

"I don't know....maybe those inland people are just smarter than us." I said slowly, using ounce of will I had not to look at Kurt. I mean, he just washed up here, there was no proof that he was from the mainland. Besides, he didn't have any memory anyway, so it was a moot point. But still.....just how DID this thing get here?
"What do you think our chances are of getting across again? Maybe if we run really fast that thing won't get us..." The fastest person I knew was probably Azen, and I found myself wishing he was here again.

"Again? We didn't get across the first time. I think that thing would attack us. Maybe it's supposed to guard the island from people coming and going," I said, not really liking the idea. I mean, I loved the island and didn't want to leave, but the idea of being a prisoner wasn't pleasant. "Besides, it can probably move a lot faster through the water than we can running across the bridge. And I don't really want to try swimming past it."

I sighed, knowing he was right. "Yeah, I guess you've got a point. There's no way to get around that thing. Maybe the Sea Kingdom put it there as protection...I don't know I guess it doesn't matter." I looked back over at him. "But, the least we can do is make sure no one else tries to cross the bridge, right?" I didn't like the idea of sitting here doing nothing again.
I looked back over at the bridge and saw that thing was out of the water again, but something was different. I was looking down at someone who was on the bridge. "Who the heck is that?" I tried to get a better look. "Are they trying to...you don't think they're crazy enough to fight it do ya?" Who in the world would be stupid enough to do that?

I looked out onto the bridge to see who Sevren was talking about. "Apparently they are," I said, hoping the monster didn't eat whoever it was. "You think we should try and help whoever it is? Or maybe Hali would be better at that, considering we'd both be easily swallowed or thrown into the ocean."

"I.....don't know." My knees were locked, and I felt rooted to the spot. I let out a gasp as the creature lunged and one of the figures on the bridge, and from where I was standing, I couldn't see if whoever it was had survived the encounter. I assumed he or she had been eaten.
"Oh no...what should we do?!" My instincts were telling me to run out after there, but I knew Kurt was right, that would most likely be suicide. Of course, my hyperactive brain was too busy registering the fact that the bridge itself hadn't been harmed a bit by the blast.

"Let's go find Hali," I said, grabbing Sevren's arm. He looked like he was going to run onto the bridge; if the monster had ate whoever it lunged at, it would probably eat him, too. Then Elsie would kill me for letting Sevren go out there, then Azen would bring me back to life and kill me for the same reason. I tugged him (gently) away from the bridge, hoping that putting a little distance between it and him would make him think about the consequences of going out there. "Come on, if we're going to help whoever that is we should hurry."

Kurt's tugging pulled me out of my trance. He was right, there was no way we could even stand a chance against that thing. I took off running to the Central Dias, hoping Hali was still there.
I could tell more than a few people had heard the noise, but, like us, they weren't too sure what to do about it. I tried not to bump into people to much, and finally we reached the steps of the Dias. Hali was there, thank the gods, and she knew something was amiss. "What happened?" she demanded.
"There's.....something on the bridge...." I said, panting too hard to make it any clearer. Hali hissed something in an ancient language (the only word I caught was Leben) and disappeared in a flash of light. I thought about running to the beach to see what was happening, but I had to catch my breth first.

I ran after Sevren, ducking around people and trying not to knock anybody over. He was lucky he was so small; he could fit between the people and still move fast. I ran into a woman holding a basket, knocking us both to the ground. "Sorry!" I jumped back onto my feet and helped her up then ran after Sevren again, not bothering to make sure she was all right. Hopefully she wasn't too mad at me. . .
"....something on the bridge...." I caught the end of what Sevren was saying to Hali. Just as I reached them, Hali disappeared, leaving me and Sevren standing there breathing like we'd just ran a ten-mile race.
"Should we...go back to the...beach?"
