The air was fresh from the hard rainfall that had happened earlier in the day. Everything was covered in small water droplets. They clung to every surface including the willow trees long chains of leaves. The moon started to brake through the clouds. When the moonlight hit the water drops it sparkled, making the forest looks as if it were frosted with crystals. The light bounced off anything and everything that was in the forest. Now that the rain had stopped a few of the simple creatures had come out to enjoy the nice night. Crickets chirped their songs while some frogs sang with them almost as if they were singing in a round.
“This night…it’s so calm…not like at home.” Said a voice softly behind a curtain of willow leaves. A pale hand made its way through the leaves and pulled to the side. Some of the water droplets sparkled as they tumbled off their green perch. A hooded figure stood under the protection of the thick willows branches, their clock was lightly sprinkled with water. They walked out from the willows protective leaves and stood in the moonlight. Her cloak sparkled from the moisture that had chosen their hood as a resting place. In their right hand they held a large brown pine wood staff and they seemed to be using it as a walking staff, but it seemed it was made more for fighting then it was for such a simple task. With their left hand they lifted the hood back to reveal pure white hair that hung just above their shoulders.
It was a woman, her features were only shrouded by the heavy cloak. Her face had strange markings on her skin, the markings were as black as darkness it self. A thin silvery grey cloth was tied over her eyes, keeping them unseen from those who she would come across. Carah took a deep breath and slowly let it back out, a small smile spread on her face. She like nights like these, no one would bother her when she went picking her herbs. She opened the front of her cloak. The rough cloth only hid her smooth tan blouse that hung off her shoulders. A long light blue skirt tumbled to the ground just covering her brown leather sandals. A dark brown leather belt sat snuggly on her waist, a silver loop buckle sparkled slightly from under its tarnish. On her left hip a stripped willow basket with a two small leather straps, to keep it from opening, sat loosely only moving when she moved. Next to the basket a gold handled dagger was strapped to her belt. Its smooth oiled sheath was covered with an imprint of some sort, a lion sitting on a grand throne. It was the seal of the mammal kingdom king and his solders.
Carah lightly tapped her staff on the ground and used it to help her not run into anything. She stepped into the wet grass and smiled a little more. The cool water sprinkled over her bare skin on her ankles and what was uncovered by the leather of her sandals. She walked a little ways before feeling a tree’s trunk. She ran her fingers over its rough bark and she traced some of the crevices. “Hm…” She mumbled to herself and continued. Suddenly a small shadow fluttered over Carah on the ground, she didn’t notice. The thing that flew through the air landed on some of the branches of the tree. Slowly it skittered over the bark with out even making a sound. A small black and grey squirrel had crawled down the tree’s truck and it was only a foot away from Carah’s hand before she smiled and pulled away from the tree. Right as she pulled away the squirrel pounced nothing but air, it flew and handed on the ground, it rolled one or twice before staying still. “Ha!” Carah started to laugh. “Little one you try to hard!” She giggled.
“How do you do it Carah…” The little Sugar Glider asked while rubbing its small nose. Carah knelt down and held out her hand. “You’re not very quiet when you travel from the tree branches Anar.” She lightly tapped one of her ears. “The leaves make a lot of noise.” She said with a small smile. Anar jumped into Carah’s open hand and ran his way up her arm. Carah slowly stood up, using her staff as support. Anar scurried all the way up her arm to sit on her shoulder. “So where are we going today Carah?” He asked with excitement. “The river? The thick grouping of willow trees? Oh or maybe, the strange tree we found with weird fruit growing on it a few days ago! Or-” Just like any boy his age Anar wanted to explore, it was in his blood. His parents and he traveled all over the mammal kingdom doing craft shows and musical performances. It was only after a few years that Anar himself started doing gymnastics and contortionist acts for crowds. Carah gave a small smile and shook her head slightly as he chattered on about places that they could go.
