I looked around, then dashed between houses, signalling Anna to follow me.

I followed Ray, rubbing my hands up and down my arms to warm them. "How much farther?" I asked.

"Not much," I said, ducking into another ally. A few more dashes across deserted streets and we were there. "Come on," I said, pulling open the back door and gesturing for her to go in ahead of me.
