I walked through the trees that were just a few yards from what the Reptiles and Sea Creatures called the Sunning Rocks. I emerged from the shadows, walking slowly across the open ground between the trees and the rocks.
When I reached the rocks, I climbed easily to the highest one. They were warm from the sun; the heat felt good on my skin. I layed back, feeling the heat on my back even though I wore a shirt. I could hear the waves lapping at the shore; nobody else was around. It was perfect. If only everywhere could be as peaceful (and quiet) as this; why can't everyone just be like me and stick to themselves? Life would be so much simpler if they did.

Running...Panting...the heat.
A slick form ran over the rough hot sand, running faster and faster. I'm not letting them take me back, not now not ever! She screamed in her mind. Her deep red skin looked as if the fire itself burned it's way into her skin. A thin cloth hood covered her ruby red hair and it wrapped around her nose and mouth to keep the sand out. Her woven sandals were tied up to her knees. Her skirt fluttered behind her as she ran.
Aleray didn't even bother to look behind her, she was only focused ont he boarder. She ran until she stopped in front of the large rocks that separated her from her freedom. “Yes! I’m coming freedom!” She cried. She climbed up on top of one of the large rocks and she didn’t notice until after she was up on the rock.
The sea…
“Curses!” She growled. She had thought she went to right way, but it appears she didn’t. “Stupid fools must have pushed me in the wrong direction.” She growled to herself. As Aleray was cursing to herself she wasn’t paying attention to where she was going while on the rock and her foot slipped, she slipped off the rock. “Ah!!!” She cried and landed on top of something soft.

"Ah!!!"
I opened my eyes just in time to see some girl falling off of the rock above me. I was too shocked to move; she landed square on my chest. All my breath left in a loud whoosh. I shoved her off of me and sat up, coughing as I fought to fill my lungs with air again.
"What...the...h**l...do you...think you're...doing?" I mangaed to gasp. As soon as I'd regained my breath and was sure that I wasn't [seriously] injured, I glared at her.

Aleray's head scarf slid off of her thick ruby hair and her face was now visible. Her deep honey brown eyes gazed over at the boy beneath her. Her smooth lips her formed in a small frown. She was told she looked very pretty when she smiled. Her dark red-brown skin looked beautiful in the sun light, it was almost as if her fire element was glowing through her.
She blew some of her red hair out of her face and pushed herself up. "Why would you care!" She snapped." She sat down on her feet and brushed off her skirt and pulled down her scarf Her long red hair was pulled back into a tight braid with small gold hair clasps. The braid was loosely wrapped around her neck to keep if from view under the scarf. She pulled off her scarf and let her hair down. It tumbled down her back and it coiled slightly on the ground.
Aleray glared back at the boy and started to tuck back some strands of loose hair. It must have been strange for a young woman such as herself to be walking around int he dessert.

Cujo glared at the girl, his ice blue eyes glittering in the sunlight. "I would care because you just landed on me," he retorted, crossing his arms over his chest. His brown hair hung in his eyes; he ran a hand through his hair, trying to get it to stay back, but it wouldn't.
"What's a girl like you doing out here in the desert?" I asked. The way the girl was dressed led me to assume that she hadn't been on her own for long; the garments were almost completely clean (a contrast to my own set of clothes), and she had shoes (mine were long gone).
After a few moments of silence and her glaring at me, I said, "Aren't you even going to apologize for landing on me?"

Aleray continued to tuck stands of hair back into place. "Thats none of your business you little toad." She said smoothly. Aleray never liked being asked questions, they took to long and they never turned in her favor.
Aleray looked away from the boy before answering his question. "It's your own fault for not moving." She said in a snobby tone.
Suddenly there where some shouts from t he other side of the rocks. Aleray's eyes widened and she suddenly was by the boys side with a hand clapped over his mouth. "Stay quiet or we'll both be in trouble." She whispered to him harshly.
She listened to the voices closely. She heard one voice that she knew the most. Just as I thought...Qual... She thought to herself. Qual was Jovor's right hand man, when ever Aleray got out her "adoptive father" would send him out after her.
After a few moments the voices faded and Aleray gave a small sigh and let go of the boy. "Sorry about that..." She said softly. Her honey brown eyes showed her apology.

"Don't touch me," Cujo snapped, glaring at the girl. "Besides, I wouldn't have made any noise anyway. Do I honestly look like I live in civilization?" He gestured to his dirty clothes and shoeless feet. There was a make-shift bandgage on his leg; the cloth was no cleaner than his clothes.
He leaned back against the rock behind him, waiting for the girl to insult the way he looked; most people did, once they got a good look at him. He looked exactly like what he was: a homeless teenager. Not that it bothered him in any way. He actually took the time to look at her now; she had long red hair and brown eyes. She was actually very pretty.

"I've seen worse..." She said softly. "I wish I didn't live in civilization." She said sadly.
"I'm sorry for touching you...I..I just don't want them to take me back..." She said looking down at her hands.
Small strands of her hair fell in front of her face.

Cujo huffed in agreement. "Civilization's overrated." He watched the girl, praying silently that she wouldn't start crying. He watched her silently, wondering why she was still here. "And you're still here, because...?" He let the end of his question trail off as he raised his eyebrows, waiting for the girl to elaborate.
He thought about asking who she was, but then she'd probably want to know who he was; he definitly didn't want her to know who he was.

Aleray looked up at the boy for a moment before answering. "Every time I get away I get caught..." She said softly. "I thought I could get away this time, but...I don't think I can..."
"Well...you see...I can't swim..." She said softly. "I was suppose to go in the other direction to get out of this kingdom, but they pushed me this way...I think they planned it this way." She growled.

Cujo's mouth almost dropped; she couldn't swim? How could she not swim? "You must be joking; how do you not know how to swim?" He asked the question before he'd even realized he'd opened his mouth.
He leaned towards the girl, cruel ammusement sparkling in his eyes. "So, if I were to, say, push you over the edge of the rock, you'd drown?"

"I just can't...I was never taught..." She said softly. She held onto one of her arms and rubbed it a little.
Aleray's eyes widened when the boy said this. "Yes I would!" She said in a shocked tone. "It would also burn out my fire." She said with a frown.

Cujo blinked. Her fire? What was this weird girl talking about? "Uh, okay then. . ." He leaned back, still debating on whether or not to push her over the edge. It'd be a lot easier for him to stay out of a Kingdom if he did; if she got caught she might be tempted to tell her captors that there was another snake in the desert. He definitly didn't want to get stuck in some stupid Kingdom.
"I wasn't taught to swim. I taught myself. It's not that hard; unless you're a complete idiot, that is."

Aleray looked up at the boy for a moment, her gold eyes flickered slightly. "You think I'm crazy don't you..." She said softly. "I can tell..."
Aleray looked down at her hands and frowned. "Well my 'father' never cared to teach me anything..." She said softly. "All he wanted me to learn is dance, and that woman need to learn to stay in their place and never speak unless spoken to." She growled softly.

I almost laughed. Almost. "That's ridiculous." I stretched my legs out in front of me and sighed. I leaned my head back on the rock behind me, letting the sun shine on my face. The heat felt nice . . .
I sighed again. "At least you have a father," I mumbled. Wait; why had I said that?! Aw crap, now she's going to start freaking out on me because I'm a homeless, orphaned. . .uh, person? Ugh. I can't remember what that crazy woman called me. Anyway, she's probably going to start lecturing me on how I need to have a family that cares about me, blah blah blah, etc. etc.
